It's not really designed for that. You can try, I got it to work sometimes for some demo videos, but I haven't tried in a long time. For manual back testing like that it's better to use something like Forex Tester.

Mt5 downloads history in the background on another thread. It's not as straight forward as MT4 to get history. The easiest way is to use indicators which "demand" data from a certain date period, which kicks MT5 into downloading.
